About the Artichoke Festival
The Artichoke Festival is held annually at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center. In 1922, the first artichoke shoots were planted in Castroville, California. The annual Artichoke Festival began in 1959 as a harvest festival to celebrate Artichoke — which was declared the official state vegetable of California in 2013.
While the Artichoke Festival celebrates the area’s farming heritage, it also offers many other attractions for the attendees. The Festival features local chef demonstrations, artichoke-inspired foods, a car show, live music, contests, and more. In 2024, the two-day Artichoke Festival will take place on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9.
