46th Annual Stewart McKelvey Fredericton Marathon Race Weekend
The annual Fredericton Marathon event began in 1979. It started as a project led by students from the physical education faculty at the University of New Brunswick. There were 166 participants in the first marathon(1979) and Leo Glavine and Lauretta Harris were the winners. The race became a fundraiser for the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation in 1980. Jean-Marc Doiron recorded the fastest time for the men’s marathon with 2:33:45 in 2018 and Paula Keating for the women’s marathon with 2:53:57 in 2014.
