Like other countries, Muslims living in the USA celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr every year. This event is observed on the first day of the tenth Islamic month(Shawwal). The corresponding Gregorian calendar date for Eid-ul-Fitr may vary from one country to another. This is because the new month in the Islamic calendar(also known as the Lunar or Hijri Calendar) is marked by the sighting of the new moon, which can vary from one location to another.
Also known as Eid-al-Saghir and Sugar Feast, Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims celebrate Eid holidays by offering prayers, meeting and greeting each other, exchanging gifts, and visiting the graves of their dead relatives. People also prepare and eat special meals including sweet dishes on Eid-ul-Fitr. Other names of this holy festival include Ramazan Bayrami, Choti Eid, Sweet Eid, Hari Raya Puasa, Lebaran, and Seker Bayrami.
In 2024, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed in the United States on Wednesday, April 10.
