About the Fair
Steele County Free Fair (SCFF) is held annually at the fairgrounds located along South Cedar Avenue in Owatonna, Minnesota.
SCFF’s earliest roots date back to 1860, when the first fair in Steele County was held; but there is no record of fairs being held after the first fair until 1871. From 1871 through 1917 the fair was held at various locations throughout Owatonna, and eventually moved to the current site in 1918. By 1917, the decision was made to make the annual event a “free fair”. The fair thrived and is one of the largest county fairs in Minnesota.
Steele County Free Fair is a family-friendly and fun-filled event featuring many attractions such as livestock, amusement rides, a demolition derby, food booths, merchandise vendors, and music. In 2024, the six-day Steele County Free Fair will take place from Tuesday, August 13 to Sunday, August 18.
