The first Tanana Valley State Fair was held in September 1924. It is the oldest fair in the state of Alaska. During the early years in the absence of a permanent home, the fair was held in different locations. In June 1952, forty acres of land was secured on College Road from the University of Alaska on a ten-year lease. Later more land was bought and today the fair encompasses 100 acres. Tanana Valley State is annually organized at the Fairgrounds in Fairbanks. In 2024, the ten-day Tanana Valley State Fair will take place from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 4.
